"Celebration of Life" Walk-a-thon

On Saturday, September 20th, many of you gathered to celebrate life with Cancer Angels of San Diego at the Bridges Club Sports Center in Rancho Santa Fe.  Your tremendous generosity helped us to raise almost $50,000 for San Diego Stage IV Cancer Patients. $10, 961 of that money was raised by a group of children, the Brain Highways Champions.  These Brain Highways Champions already knew what it felt like to struggle since many have diagnoses such as autism, attention deficit disorder, and learning disabilities. However, none of their personal struggles interfered with their enthusiasm and ability to make people aware of the plight of the patients of CASD and to raise almost eleven thousand dollars. 100 of the children participated in the challenge and nineteen actually walked the walk at the Bridges, joining us in dance, awards, and meeting two of the grateful clients directly impacted by their hard work. As I hugged the children, stunned by the large amount of money they raised, tears poured from my eyes. I could feel the love from each and every one of them. For whatever challenges these children may face due to a few “ brain highways” that may be connected in ways different than their peers, their huge hearts and spirits bring to the world a special love and kindness which is felt, deep into the soul, with a simple embrace.

Since it’s inception in October of 2007, Cancer Angels of San Diego has raised almost $175,000.00 thanks to the Makana Aloha Foundation of Maui, Hawaii, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Barnhart, the Brain Highways Champions and ALL OF YOU. We could not be helping these Stage IV cancer patients without your help. We are simply the messengers, you are the angels.

We know that though times are tough right now, our donors still want to give even when the wallet is saying “OUCH”. You and your wallet will be thrilled to know that you can give merely by signing up for Ralph’s, Albertson’s, and Escrip (see our home page). In this way, we receive a percentage of your purchases, you receive your points, and everyone wins. We just received a check from Kroeger’s for $221.00 because about 18 people shopped at Ralph are, using their Ralph’s card, which was connected to CASD.  To sign up for Escrip, since it requires your credit card number, we ask you to click on the Escrip button on our home page and enter the needed information yourself as we want your privacy protected.  For Ralph’s and Albertson’s, just call or email us and we’ll sign you up. We just need your email and physical address, the numbers on the back of your rewards cards, or your permission to get you a new one.
